The car loan interest rates in Malaysia had been increased following the recent increase in the Bank Negara Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) a.k.a Malaysia interest rates bench mark. Interest rates on new non-national car loans has increased by an average of 0.25 percentage point while rates for new national car loans saw a hike of about 0.10 percentage point.
EON Bank Bhd said the bank’s revised interest rates for new non-national cars were 3.5% (5-year tenure), 3.75% (7-year) and 3.85% (9-year). Meanwhile, rates for new national cars now stood at 3.85% (5-year tenure), 4%
(7-year) and 4.10% (9-year). Before that, new non-national car loan rates at EON Bank was ranged from 3.25% to 3.5% while new national car loan rates were 3.75% to 4%.The last car loan rates increase was in March when the OPR was revised upward by 25 basis points. On May 13, the central bank raised again the OPR by another 25 basis points to the current 2.5%. In 2009, when the OPR was at a historical low of 2%, borrowers used to pay only up to 2.8% interest rate for a new non-national car.
So, do reconsider whether to purchase a car at this time. If you are really keen to purchase a car, then find the best offering interest rates, as we can see those banks are competing one another to get business.

The number of people who applied for car loans in some countries in Asia have been declined due to the increasing interest rates that most auto lenders offer.
ReplyDeleteI once had my car loan in 2005 since I really needed to have my own car. Time came that I can't pay for it on time anymore. It got me so worried that it may get worse. So I talked to my cousin who is working on a finance company and asked for his help and to let me avail of unsecured financing service from a company. Now my car is already fully paid. My risk of having an unsecured financing was worth it.
